Private Residence

This private residence is a six-bedroom, eight-and-a-half-bathroom single-family home rooted in Japanese minimalism. The design prioritizes a harmonious relationship between interior and exterior space while maintaining privacy, creating an atmosphere of tranquility and renewal.

This philosophy is expressed through clean materials, integrated water elements, and sliding glass doors that draw light deep into the plan. A reflecting pond at the entrance signals the home’s spirit of purification and calm before one steps inside; a vertical garden to the north reinforces this contemplative quality. Unobstructed views of the Florida Everglades extend the sense of connection to nature throughout.

The primary design challenge was fitting a large, complex program onto an irregularly shaped lot while preserving the feeling of a private oasis. The solution organizes circulation through a concrete gallery — the structural and spatial core — anchored by exposed shear walls and slabs. Tubular steel elements support the glazed rear and side façades, and a GAF PPO low-slope roof system ties together the horizontal composition. At the entrance, a wishbone column of tubular steel rises from a floating island: at once structural support and sculptural gesture.

This private residence balances programmatic rigor with a deep respect for nature, a serene retreat where minimalism, structure, and landscape converge.
